1After these things he left Athens and came to Corinth.2And he found a certain Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy, and Priscilla his wife, because Claudius had ordered all the Jews to depart from Rome; and he went to them.3And because they were of the same trade he stayed with them and worked, for they were tentmakers by trade.4And he used to speak in the synagogue every Sabbath and tried to persuade both Jews and Greeks.5When Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was occupied with the word, solemnly testifying to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ.6When they opposed him and reviled him, he shook out his garments and said to them, Your blood be on your own heads; I am clean; from now on I will go to the Gentiles.7And he left there and went into the house of a certain man named Titius Justus, a worshiper of God, whose house was next to the synagogue.8Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord together with all his household, and many of the Corinthians who heard believed and were baptized.9The Lord said to Paul in a night vision, Do not be afraid, but speak and do not be silent.10For I am with you, and no one will lay a hand on you to harm you, because I have many people in this city.11And he stayed a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.12When Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a united attack on Paul and brought him before the tribunal.13They said, This man is persuading people to worship God contrary to the law.14Just as Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, If it were a matter of wrongdoing or a serious crime, I would have reason to bear with you, O Jews.15But if the questions are about words and names and your own law, see to it yourselves; I do not wish to be a judge of these matters.16And he drove them from the tribunal.17Then they all seized Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him in front of the tribunal; but Gallio paid no attention to any of these things.
